About the Logo
'Dung-Dkar' literally means ' The White Conch' in Tibetan and is one of their eight religious symbols. Of many things that it has come to represent over the years, 'Dung-Dkar' for us means a mighty invocation that heralds the awakening from the slumber of ignorance and indifference. The conch, being a symbol for great power and the white signifying peace, we using the medium of art to proclaim the essence of Tibetan way of life, 'The compassion' for all sentinel beings.
Can art become a medium to heal the past and be hope for the future? Yes, we believe in that and strive on to put 'Compassion' into Action through Art.

Our Objective

  • To preserve and promote the performing Tibetan folk art traditions and heritage, very unique of the different regions, represented by its people in the community of Montreal. To explore and understand their historical relevance and its evolution outside Tibet.

  • To give the Tibetan Canadians artists, its due place in the cultural mosaic of this nation of immigrants. In the true spirit of Canada, we strive to trace that heritage up to its modern day existence, as it influences and interacts with other cultures. We hope to raise the issues of identification, acknowledgment, development and support of its performing arts in contemporary context of Canadian art scene.

  • By involving the Ex TIPAs (Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts)  in the community, the collective strives to be the springboard to acknowledge and give due recognition they deserve, at the same time create opportunities for them to advance in their vocation as well as train artists in professional settings.

  • To establish lifelong friendships and facilitate cross-culture collaboration with other communities in Montreal and create bridges among them for mutual understanding and cooperation.
