Bio

Lhamo Jimpa is one of the earliest arrivals of the Tibetan community in Montreal in 1970, when she came here as a newly wed but her journey before that has been a long  one. Born in the U-Tsang region in Tibet, they fled to Nepal and lived there for 7 years. Next her family moved to the border town between Nepal and India and because of the language, eventually made their way to Darjeeling district in India. Lhamo joined TIPA in 1964, when she was 15.

She stayed there for five years and learnt many songs and  dances of Tibet. Lhamo also went on several India tours with the TIPA troupe. Some of the places, where she performed were Bombay, Bangalore, Bylakuppi, Munkot, Mysore, Dalhousie, Shimla, Delhi and Lucknow.

In Montreal, Lhamo has performed with other artists on various occasions in New York, Boston, Burlington. In Canada, she has been to Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, Grammondville among others. Lhamo is also, an active member of the TCAQ and has previously held executive posts in the association. She has been performing at Lhosar and the Tibetan Bazaar since the very beginning of the event and trained her daughter Dekey and others in the various folk dances of Tibet.
