Bio

Don Loga is a Tibetan Canadian based in Montreal East, who has studied photography, art and design at The Ontario college of Art and Design (OCAD) in Toronto. He has been working with the visual arts since late 1990s at various sites. Don has traveled to Tibet as a volunteer for various Canadian based charities since 2000.

Don's roots are in Eastern Tibet, where his parents come from and through the medium of visual arts, he is constantly striving to discover it and share with others, as he believes is a dwindling tradition in Tibet. Through the medium of photographs he wants to preserve it forever. Don has been involved with the Canada Tibet Committee at their Toronto office between 1995-2000, Montreal 2000-2004. He traveled to Gage Tibet with the Tibet – Gaden Relief in 2000 for the Health clinic construction. He once again visited Zadho, Tibet in 2007 with the Tibet – Geway Projects in relation to Hospice constructions.

Artistically, Don has had two shows of his photographs, The Collective art show and the CSDM, Art show, both in Montreal, in 2007, 2008 respectively. He was also associated with the award winning documentary, 'What remains of us' and won the Junta award in 2004. Don appeared in Dinner with friends for Vision TV in 1998.

To Don, Photography is more than just a personal fascination. According to him, in this vastly visual world, where much of humankind remains illiterate and where differences in language and culture impede us from communicating the simplest of gestures, he has learned that pictures can speak where words often fail. It is a means to communicate the disparities and parallels in humankind and a way to revive humanity—both on an individual and collective scale. It is he believes, as all other forms of art, as admirable a motion as pure altruism. Don continues to aspire to reflect its full potential in his work.
