Dukar was born in Labrang, Amdo in eastern Tibet.  In June 1990 he escaped Tibet. He walked 24 hours crossing Himalayas to reach Nepal border. And then he headed towards Dharamsala (Northeast of India) because he wanted to get Holiness the Dalai Lama’s blessing.

After few years of joining the refugee school in Dharamsala he, was among the few lucky ones who got selected through a, “U.S. Resettlement Project”. Thus in 1993 he landed in United State of America.  In 1995 he met his wife in Canada and is presently residing in Quebec with his family.
